Its a regular Fender pick, med. weight... and I have a battery power drill. What kind of bit should I use, and will it work w/o shattering? Or should I just use a hammer & nail

  1. A hot needle might leave a bump around the hole. If you squash the pick between bits of wood and drill it with a small bit then it should be a nice clean whole.  Another thing you can do is stamp a hole out with one of those things people use for making holes in leather.

  2. u can use the drill bit make sure u r far enough away from they edge u can use a hot needle or nail but make sure if u do not 2 touch around the hole for about 5 minutes because even though it may not feel hot it still will be flexible and u can leave a fingerprint or bend it

  3. not all plastics melt so a hot needle may not work, on the other hand a drill will go through easily (make a dent in the pick to keep the drill bit steady where you want the hole centre, go slow and don't hold the pick with your fingers!!!)

  4. just use the drill , and it really doesn't matter the size of bit it won't split or shatter.

  5. I would use a hot needle

there usualy made from plastic of some sort.

pounding or drilling will split it,

  6. i used a battery powered drill on really slow with a very small bit and u need to put one of those circle thing in too or when u put the chain in the necklace will be messed up

  7. Yes you should be able to drill without damage if you do it slow.Just get you a small bit and you should be good to go..

  8. you can drill it with a small bit and go slow to make a clean hole but you will need to clamp it to something so the pick doesnt spin. a hot nail may leave stringy blobs on the back for you to cut off

  9. I would not use any kind of hot nail etc. to make a hole in plastic. It would cause a tiny curled edge to form. I'm a guitar teacher and I've made many repairs on various things. The best way to make a hole in a medium guitar pick is to first make a 'jig' by drilling a 1/8" hole in two small (i.e. 6" x 6") pieces of 3/8" plywood. The plywood pieces should be clamped together so the hole will basically be in the same spot on both pieces. Make a tiny mark on the pick where you want the hole to be. Then, line-up and 'sandwich' the guitar pick in-between these two pre-drilled plywood pieces by using at least two clamps. A 2nd medium guitar pick should be placed at the opposite end of the jig so the whole thing remains parallel and flat against the pick to be drilled. When re-drilling though the pre-drilled holes, it will now prevent the plastic composition of the guitar pick from edge-tearing or splintering etc. An even-more-fancy jig could be made that would have four pre-drilled holes, one in each corner. Use a protective board on the very bottom and be sure and avoid drilling into your favorite dining table.
