I know that water in foreign countries can be 'different' to what your system is used to.

But is it drinkable after you've gotten used to it? Is it good enough? I was planning on going for 2 months - am i going to have to drink bottled water all the time?

  1. Who says you can't drink tap water? I have travelled all around Croatia. The water is perfectly safe. Somewhere it can taste a little metalic due to the pipes, but is safe. Croatia has one of the best waters in the whole world (they won some awards, I believe). So yes, it's good enough and if youre not used to it, you will get used to it.

Venezuela is nothing like Croatia, AJ

    Plus:

Regarding its water resources, Croatia has a leading position in Europe. Concerning water quality, Croatian water is greatly appreciated all over the world. Due to a lack of established industries there have also been no major incidents of water pollution.

Some mineral waters if you insist on bottled water:

Jamnica – Winner of the Paris AquaExpo (the so-called Eauscar) for best mineral water of 2003 [6]

    Lipički studenac

Jana – also belongs to Jamnica, best aromatized mineral water (Eauscar 2004)

Cetina – water from the river Cetina, which flows through the Dalmatian hinterland [7]

Bistra – produced by Coca Cola

  2. I've been to many countries in Europe, and to Croatia at least a dozen times in twenty years. I've never had any trouble with the water or any food there.

    Enjoy!!!

  3. More than likely, you will have to drink mostly bottled water.  The other option is filtered water.  You have to be very careful even in restaurants.  Oh, and watch the ice.  Even though you have filtered or bottled water, you need to make sure the ice has been filtered too.  It would be a good idea to take some Imodium AD in case something does upset your system.  Will your system get used to it?  I really couldn't say for sure.  It probably depends on your body and how sensitive you are to certain things.  Mostly what makes one sick from water in foreign countries, is parasites.  I know you will have a good time though!  Hope all goes well!  :)

  4. It is perfectly safe to drink tap water in Croatia, and as you said yourself, it may only take a while to get used to it - after which you'll have no problems. If you have any problems at all in the beginning, they will be due to a different mineral content to other countries' tap water, and you may get an upset tummy. But that's all. Bottled water is of good quality and comes in many varieties, too, also it's cheap, so you may wish to stick to it if still in doubt. Many locals do, just because its content is more health beneficial than tap water. Enjoy your stay:)
