I am renting a car when I travel to Germany in two weeks. I've read that non-EU members need a international driving licence. Is this true? I only have a valid US driving licence. Will I be able to rent the car?

  1. I rented from Hertz and it wasn't a problem.

This site should answer any questions you have about driving in Germany on an American license.

  3. Yes you can.No problem.

  4. I am sure there will be no problem.. you have a visa and you are only hiring a car during your stay in Germany and you hold a valid US license so you can hire a car.. if you moved to Germany you would have to get a license that is valid in Europe.. but not as a mere tourist..

  5. why u don`'t take an international driving licence with you? cost you only a few bucks. you don't have to "make" a international licence.

  6. you just go to AAA to get and international drivers license. my husband got one when we went to germany last year. i do believe it is needed

  7. Make sure you get an international driver's lisence!  They may not check, but it is needed...you don't want to get pulled over and be caught without one.  I believe you can get it from AAA.
