  1. No, there is no 3 day free ride.  A car must be licensed and insured to be on any public road in any state.  Period.

You can drive that car as long as you have a temporary tag or current tags on a car.  Just make sure you have your purchase agreement with you and proof of insurance.  your current insurance covers the vehicle you purchased for 15 days.  Temp tags will be good for 30-60 days depending on the state.

    If you car came with tags, as long as they aren't expired its good to go - just make sure the dealer or person you bought it from is in the process of transferring the car to you.

  3. When you buy a car, you purchase a 30 day tag to allow you to drive while the title is getting processed. When you receive the title, you go and get the regular plates.

  4. It is possible that some states allow you to drive it home only, but insurance coverage is always required.
