  1. The only way to arrive by car is from the Chiriqui province (on the Pacific side) by crossing over the continental divide. On the descent you arrive to the town of Chiriqui Grande from where you can either take the ferry boat to Colon Island or Almirante in Bocas del Toro, or continue by car all the way to the town of Almirante (also on the mainland).

  2. Not by the coast.  There are plans for building a road that will do that, but in a couple of years.

You have to drive through the Interamericana, across Panama City, and then to the Interior.  It is a long drive, but it can be done.  Otherwise, you can always fly.

  3. Yes, you can drive on the carribbean coast of Panama from Colon to go to Bocas del Toro.

  4. Sure you can. All you need, provided that are new to Panama, is a map. Otherwise drive carefully and you will arrive in Bocas del Toro in 16 hours time.

  5. You can go from Colon to BDT by car (long way) but you can NOT do it by the coast.  The main road (Interamericana) does not go by the coast.
