  1. legally. you need insurance which covers all drivers, if you crash it would be your dads insurance which would pay. if you are not covered under the policy, it would be up to him to pay for any costs.

  2. It's illegal to drive uninsured.

But you, can put your name under your dad's insurance. I'm under my dad's. But he pays for it. So, I don't know how you can work things out with your father about that, but it's definitely possible.

  3. if you get put on your dads insurance you wouldn't be uninsured you would just be on his policy. truly driving uninsured depends on your area, its never recommended though, even if you have only liability only and its your fault you may walk away with nothing but it prevents you from having to pay the other person thousands from your own pocket.

  4. If your car is in your name, you can't add it to your father's policy.  He can't insure something he does not own, he has no interest in it.  You will have to add your father's name to your title or give to him totally to insure it on his insurance (as long as you are a member of his household).  If you are selling your car to someone else & are being added to your father's insurance as a part time driver, that is fine, there is a charge for young drivers even if they are only part time, it is not free.  If you are a driver on your father's insurance, you are not uninsured but uninsured has more to do with the vehicle you are driving.  You have to be sure the VEHICLE is insured properly.

If you get into an accident BOTH your assets are on the line, your father's as the owner of the vehicle and yours as the driver.  Hopefully your father has high limits ($500,000) and if he has assets he should also have a personal umbrella policy (coverage starts at $1,000,000).

  5. No,  you can not drive uninsured. It is illegal.
