Can you drive with your signed papers until you get your actual license card?

I just finished behind the wheel, and I'm getting my signed papers in order to get my license. But DMV is already closed. Am I allowed to drive with the signed papers until I get a chance to go to DMV and actually get the card? Aren't the papers the same as your license, just in paper form?

  1. In California, when you pass your driving test they give you a temporary paper license, which you can use to drive until you get your card license in the mail.
