I have a gas burning stove/oven in my house. The other night I smelled gas and called the gas/electric company. The guy came with a sensor and said that I had a leak but it wasn't bad at all. Can I just cover the flex pipe (where the leak was detected) with duct tape?

  1. You can't do that and be assured of good health and a long life.  Such a leak can get MUCH worse VERY fast.

  2. A new line is cheap compared to your life...The gas company guy should have shut your gas off until it was repaired. I can't believe he would endanger your life like that. What a moron.

  3. no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  4. No, you can't fix it with duct tape.  Isn't your life worth more than a few dollars?

  5. No!

The only way I would do it is if it was very temporary. The repairman is on the way.

Shut off the gas if you can. If not tape it so that you are not getting gas into your living quarters until a professional arrives.

That is nothing to mess with.

  6. There is no such thing as a leak that's "not bad"! All leaks need to be fixed 100%...period! No, duct tape will not work...you should call a plumber.

  7. You shouldn't - you should get it professionally repaired.

The explosive limits of natural gas are 5% ~ 15%.  That is, if the volume of gas (in a room, or in an oven) get to be 5% ~ 15%, it can be explosive.

Not a great place to try & save a few shekels.

  8. It's certianly not a good fix since cracks can propigate fairly quickly.  I would have the flex pipe replaced for your own saftey.
