Can you duplicate a key to an apartment mail box?

I ask because they said we could make our own keys. I have lost the other copy of our mail box key and need a replacement. Our key looks like a normal key, it's small, that a place like Wal-Mart could duplicate without problem. It doesn't have an special markings or anything on it.

They want $20 to make us another key.
