No you cannot eat X-Ray fish because it is poisonous. X-Ray fish eat other insects, planktonic animals and other fishes which are smaller than them. X-Ray fish is found Inland waters of Venezuela, Guyana, and Amazonian Brazil. It is a decorative fish which is well known for people with aquariums. Due to demand, most specimens are now commercially bred rather than wild caught.
X-Ray fish comes from the "Tropical Fish" family species of fish. X-Ray fish is commonly known as the golden pristella tetra or X-ray tetra because of its highly transparent body while its scientific name is Pristella maxillaries. It is a widely distributed and adaptable fish. It is small in size around 5 cm. X-Ray fish lives in large groups. Males of X-Ray fish can be easily distinguished from females because they are smaller and thinner than the females. The old latin name of X-ray fish which is used in old Aquarium books is Pristella riddlei. Other common names include goldfinch tetra, a reference to the similarly coloured goldfinch, and pristella tetra, a modification of its Latin name. A common name that was once widespread but is now rarely used is signal tetra, a reference to the similarity between the yellow and black dorsal fin and the arm of a semaphore railway signal.
The body shape of the X-Ray Fish follows the traditional tetra pattern, with equal curvature on dorsal and ventral surfaces. The main distinguishing feature of this fish is the lack of colour and apparent translucence. The internal organs in their silver sac are visible.
