  1. Well...they're edible.  Not sure how much meat is on a mini lop, guess it depends on how old they are.  I believe typical market rabbits are butchered between 8-12 weeks, if you let them get too old their meat is tough.  I've processed rabbits before, the typical way it's done is to get a heavy object, like a piece of pipe, and whack them behind the ears.  Not terribly pleasant, but done right it's pretty quick.  Hang them up, cut their throat to bleed them out, then dress them.  Not passing judgement here, just been there done that....I just don't have the stomach for it any more.  I'll buy a dressed rabbit and eat it, but its just not in me anymore to listen to that last distressed squeal when they get whacked.

  2. you're seriously disturbed.

  3. you cant be serious..! ...If you're a rabbit lover, you wouldn't be trying to kill them! Bring them back to where ever you got them, or to a shelter, or advertise on the internet(via craigslist or something) If this is the way you think, you shouldn't have any pet at all. Good luck to those poor bunnies, my heart goes out to them.

    moron!

  4. I CANT BELIEVE YOU!!!!!!!!!!!! I OWN TWO BUNNIES AND I U JUST DISTGUST ME!!!!!!!!!! GIVE THEM TO A RESCUE THERE IS SOME OTHER WAY TO GET RID OF THEM INSTEAD OF EATING THEM!!!!!!!!!! DONT KILL THEM! DONT EAT THEM! U SICKO! HOW COULD YOU!

  5. OMG where do you live? i will take them!or better yet, be a human and drop them off at a humane shelter!!  You have to have one around you! Ew and that is really gross and cruel. Rabbits eat their own p**p and random stuff, so essentially you are eating their p**p.

  6. If you want to prepare them as a meal, it's very easy. Simply prepare a very sharp knife (like a professional kitchen knife) or cleaver. It has to have a good weight to it, so this is why butchers use a cleaver. Mainly, you don't want to fail the first chop or the rabbit will feel pain, and the goal is to make it quick and painless for the animal.

Once you have your cleaver, and it's very sharp, lie the rabbit down and hold it down, on a cutting board. It will move around a lot because it will panic a little, but after a few seconds, it will calm down and won't be scared anymore. This is when you can take careful aim and bring the cleaver down just behind the head.

If you remove the head in one clean chop, you have done a GREAT job and can eat the rabbit without the slightest guilt whatsoever -- believe me, it did not know it was going to die and it was not in pain. Animals are meant to be killed and eaten, and God is smart enough (lol) to make food animals naive and unaware of death or their fate as a meal. Never worry about that.

All in all, though, I would take them to a butcher. That way you can be 100% sure he'll do the rabbit in without cruelty and pain.

You will still have to skin the animal after this, which is definitely the easy part. Just cut the skin off with any sharp knife (be careful). There's no real "wrong" way to do this.

    Good luck!

  7. omg i think thats just cruel.how can u kill something thats ur pet.why not give them to the rescue.the rabbits may find a better owner that DOESNT eat them.

  8. First of all, please understand that a Mini Lop is supposed to be around 5-7 lbs. as an adult, so they are not as "mini" as they sound. If you're looking for a very small lop breed, I would suggest the Holland Lop, which only reaches 2-4 lbs. at maturity.

Secondly, yes you can eat Mini Lops. If they are at all friendly or may make good pets, please consider taking them to a local humane society instead. But if they are not very friendly, using them for meat is perfectly justified since you are using the rabbit and not just carelessly disposing of it. Many breeders do butcher their culls for meat rather than pet them out and add to the pet overpopulation. I think this is a very efficient way to handle it.

Here is a good website that explains the proper butchering and cooking techniques. If all is done correctly, the rabbit will not feel pain or suffer.

PLEASE make sure that if you do choose to use your rabbits for meat, you do it properly so that you do not cause any pain to the animal.

  9. Let me explain something. Mini lops are not mini! They are MEANT to be 6 to 8 pounds. So there's no way they are too big. Maybe they aren't tame because they sense that some crazy person wants to eat them!

Another thing. You dont HAVE TO do anything! You dont HAVE TO KILL them. And you dont HAVE TO EAT them! God, you know, dont be so selfish. Give the rabbits up to a humane society so they have a chance at have a decent life!

One last thing, any rabbit that you buy, you are making a committment to take care of it. That means, if they are "useless" you give them to a shelter. All rabbits get big. next time you want an animal, maybe you should do some research about the breeds.

God, now Im sick to my stomach thinking about those poor defensless rabbits... :(

  10. wow i agree with all the answers that said you have problems......i bet some person would buy them from you for  pets i would....... put an ad in the paper or give them away to a  LOVING ANIMAL OWNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OR SHELTER :(

  11. GIVE THEM BACK TO THE STORE. OR THE ANIMAL RESCUE CENTER.OR A FAMILY MEMBER .PUNK  U  CANT EAT THOSE TYPES .STUPID

  12. BBQ them.

  13. You sick f*u*c*k.

Give them to a shelter! it's more humane to give them a shot at having a life better than the one you're not even attempting to offer them. Why should they suffer simply b/c you're bored with them?

And no...you don't eat this breed of rabbit. Not only is that ABNORMAL, but it's ghetto. You don't get the munchies when you see squirrels do you?

    Freaking weirdo.

Give them to a shelter. if they can't place them in a loving home they'll put them to sleep in the most humane way possible, which happens to be something you're not CERTIFIED to do.

And btw-I volunteered at a shelter for years...rabbits place quicker than dogs and kittens. They'll get a home...please get them to the shelter ASAP-you don't deserve to be a pet owner.
