  1. The fruits of Prunus subhirtella var. pendula, weeping cherry tree are small ( about 9mm in diameter ) and glossy black, but are sparse, ornamentally insignificant, hidden by the foliage, and seldom noticed. They contain one large seed

    They are -  raw or cooked - edible but of little value. The seeds contain poisonous substances ( amygdalin, prunasin ) and have a bitter taste.
