Can you even get a false positive on a pregnancy test?

what's the deal? i have taken multiple home pregnancy tests. most of them negative except for the one i peed in a cup was a faint positive. it was not however the most recent test. does that mean i had a miscarriage? what's going on? help!!!!!

go see your doctor and get a blood test done

It's very rare that you would get a false positive. Make a DR appt and go and get a blood test done. Those are 100% accurate. Good luck. =]

never heard of false positive, only false negative

i had a false positive one month but it was because i had the morning after pill it gave me a false faint poseitive but if you aint took that then i doubt its a false

i took a pregnancy test that said i was pregnant, at the same time my sis in law took one, hers was negative, turns out she was pregnant and i wasnt, go figure lol

You could be testing too early. Also, you should be testing with your urine first thing in the morning so the hormone is more concentrated.

You can't really get a false positive - it doesn't mean you've had a miscarriage necessarily. I think you need to wait a few days.

how long has it been since your missed period, because that can have an effect on it.  And if you were pregnant and had a miscarriage and you took the test soon after then it would still show that you were pregnant because of the pregnancy hormone.  I would try a test one more time.  A faint positive is still positive.  

some pregnancy tests may not be as sensitive to the pregnancy hormone as the other. So it could be that you are just not far enough along yet for it to show on the other tests.   the positive coming in so light may mean that you don't have much of the hormone also.  So wait a couple days and try another test first thing in the morning, that's when the hcg levels are at their highest
