Can you explain 'apparent wind' in sailing terms?

I've read about the term quite a lot on sailing websites and in articles, but don't exactly what it means.

  1. to make it simple, it is not only the windspeed, but also your boatspeed combined, meaning if you are motoring for instance, and heading into the wind, you feel about 10 knots of wind, but you are prob actually feeling 5 knots of wind, and the 5 knots of your boat speed,

    apparent wind is what APPEARS that the windspeed is
