"The art and science of asking questions is the source of all knowledge."

"That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”

"Science is simply common sense at its best that is, rigidly accurate in observation, and merciless to fallacy in logic."

"Science is facts; just as houses are made of stone, so is science made of facts; but a pile of stones is not a house, and a collection of facts is not necessarily science."

I really need you help..thanks very much

  1. 1 To ask a question is one of the most difficult things that we humans do! Or more correctly ..to ask the right question! Look up on a starry night and ask 'How many stars are there?' That is not the same as 'How many stars can I see?' which is not the same as 'How many stars can a person with perfect vision see? which is not the same as 'How many stars can a person with perfect vision on top of a mountain with an absolutely clear sky see? Only by knowing what truth we are really seeking can we ask the right question and get the right answer.

    2. When Armstrong stepped onto the moon for him it was but a small, a normal, human step. But for the human race it was our first step onto another world; a leap that may be compared with our coming out of the sea and becoming creatures of the land.

    3.  Think of a jigsaw. A jumble of pieces that to someone who does not know what a jigsaw is, is meaningless. But show them how it can be put together and (literally) they will get the picture. So with science; all the facts fit together, there are no odd pieces left over, there are no pieces missing; the picture is complete. Even when there are pieces missing and pieces left over, in science these sometimes show us that our knowledge needs refining; we haven't go the whole picture. The science of the Universe is just like this. We think we know what it is all about but scientists keep coming up with new findings that just don't quite fit the current picture. But each piece adds to our knowledge in some way even if at the time it is baffling!

    Hope these help.

  2. 1. Asking good questions is an art as well as a science - and it is the only way to gain knowledge.  Good questions inspire people. They are used in science as a basis to test idea's (hypothesis') so we can find out new things (gain knowledge) They can often generate more questions and ideas and therefore result in the gaining of even more knowlege.

    2.  This was a quote from Neil Armstrong when he first took a step on the moon (he was the first person to ever do this).  It means that even though he, as a man, literally took a small step on the moon's surface, all of mankind had made a giant leap, metaphorically, in space travel and research in terms of the knowledge we can gain from it.

    3. Science uses common sense to bring observed facts together to draw conclusions.  It does not tolerate faulty logic.  That is, science will catch out any false or inaccurate thinking because it uses objective and rigid observations.  All the facts have to add up to a sensible conclusion

    4.  You have to have enough stones and put them together in the right way to make a house.  You also have to use facts properly and get all the facts to make good science.

Eg.  Fact: light bulbs produce light

Fact: Household light bulbs use electricity

             Fact: The sun produces light

Scientific conclusion:  The sun uses electricity....

                                   mmm I don't think so

  3. 1. if we didn't ask questions, we wouldn't look for answeres to those questions, and so we wouldn't make any progress, or learn anything new.

    2. humans working together can achieve much more than working seperately

    3. can't really elaborate on this- it's just saying science is accurate and logical, nothing too witty

    4. to understand science you must have an overview, not just learn things, without knowing the context and uses of each "fact" you won't really have learnt anything of value.

    hope this helps..
