  1. haha I got through 4 months of a psychology degree before finding out what this means.

Cognition is pretty much just your thoughts and mind/brain activity. Fancy word that could be substituted for words like 'thought' 'idea' 'knowledge' 'belief' and some others.

  2. Cognition: The process of knowing and, more precisely, the process of being aware, knowing, thinking, learning and judging. The study of cognition touches on the fields of psychology, linguistics, computer science, neuroscience, mathematics, ethology and philosophy.

In psychology - The sort of mental processes described as cognitive tend to apply to processes such as memory, attention, perception, action, problem solving and mental imagery.

In psychology and in artificial intelligence, it is used to refer to the mental functions, mental processes and states of intelligent entities (humans, human organizations, highly autonomous robots), with a particular focus toward the study of such mental processes as comprehension, inferencing, decision-making, planning and learning.

  3. Cognition is not a concept, it is a verb.

It is just another word for thinking

There is a whole area in psychology that deals with cognition. (or in other words how people think) It seeks to find out how people come to the conclusions that they come to.

  4. Thinking.
