They sound just the way they are spelled. Unless you have a lisp.

To make a th, your tounge is touching your teeth, for a s its just at the top of your mouth.

They're both considered "sibilants" but the "th" is inter-dental (with the tongue placed between the front teeth, particularly with the blade of the tongue against the upper incisors); whereas the "s" sound is not (the tongue is behind the front teeth).
