  1. The article says american blacks don't necessarily share the same views as each other. Too many people at large would assume or would like to think the millions and millions of americans that are black are monolithic. That they have the same political, economic, social views. They don't!  That's the point of the article. They are diverse, like any large population.

    The article nearly counters itself and causes confusion when it starts to attrbute some views to (most all....)

    Anyway, it's saying that american blacks are a diverse group. An early quote by a black:  "I may take one position on an issue, my mother will take another, and my cousion yet a different position still.
