  1. What is it about those verses that you dont understand?

  2. God whisked his son out of Herod's child-genocidal path.

i guess your question should have been why just his son, right?

  3. Mat 2:13

Mat_2:13-23. The flight into Egypt - The massacre at Bethlehem - The return of Joseph and Mary with the Babe, after Herod’s death, and their settlement at Nazareth. ( = Luk_2:39).

    The Flight into Egypt (Mat_2:13-15).

And when they were departed, behold, the angel of the Lord appeareth to Joseph in a dream, saying, Arise, and take the young child and his mother — Observe this form of expression, repeated in Mat_2:14 - another indirect hint that Joseph was no more than the Child’s guardian. Indeed, personally considered, Joseph has no spiritual significance, and very little place at all, in the Gospel history.

and flee into Egypt — which, being near, as Alford says, and a Roman province independent of Herod, and much inhabited by Jews, was an easy and convenient refuge. Ah! blessed Savior, on what a checkered career hast Thou entered here below! At Thy birth there was no room for Thee in the inn; and now all Judea is too hot for Thee. How soon has the sword begun to pierce through the Virgin’s soul (Luk_2:35)! How early does she taste the reception which this mysterious Child of hers is to meet with in the world! And whither is He sent? To “the house of bondage?” Well, it once was that. But Egypt was a house of refuge before it was a house of bondage, and now it has but returned to its first use.

and be thou there until I bring thee word; for Herod will seek the young child to destroy him — Herod’s murderous purpose was formed before the Magi had reached Bethlehem.

  4. Jesus was being threatened by Herod the jewish ruler, because he had heard from the 3 wise guys that there was a king born from the jews and wanted to do obeisance to it. When King Herod figured out that he was fooled by the wiseguys then he decided to kill all the children that were of a certain age and younger. But Joseph was warned before this could happen so he fled with Jesus and his mother to Egypt.

  5. It means that Joseph unquestioningly obeyed God and took his family into Egypt on God's orders.  Going into Egypt symbolized the tribe of Israel's own trek into Egypt.  Once the danger was passed, they were instructed to come back to Israel.  So the leaving of Egypt was also symbolic of the Exodus from Egypt.  But it had also been predicted by the prophets that the Messiah would come out of Egypt.

  6. When they had gone, an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream. "Get up," he said, "take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt. Stay there until I tell you, for Herod is going to search for the child to kill him." 14So he got up, took the child and his mother during the night and left for Egypt, 15where he stayed until the death of Herod. And so was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: "Out of Egypt I called my son.

    Hosea 11:1

1 "When Israel was a child, I loved him,

and out of Egypt I called my son.

    fulfilling of prophecy

it looks self explanatory to me

  7. It seems like the intervention of God, and the fulfilling of prophecy.

I'm sure Joseph and Mary didnt have vacation plans, and God superceded to bring them word, by an angel, that Herod was searching for Christ, to destroy Him.

If you need any more help, please feel free to email me. =)

  8. Phophesy being fulfilled. Herod was a bad person, but God knows the future and carries out His will inspite of us sometimes. No one can defeat God.
