Can you explain what a UN Resolution is? I asked this before but the answers started to lean towards policy?

I have a few other questions. What does the United Nations have to do with our Country? Is our constitution not the only law our land? Are we currently in the United Nations and when and how did we join this group? What exactly is a UN Resolution and do we have to follow it? I hear that the UN did not vote for us to go to war with Iraq, but one politician in particular says that we went to war "under UN Resolutions." Is this true..and if so what does that mean? Sorry for the amount of questions but I'm a young student who is just getting into politics because I am scared of the current state our country is in.

Ryan, you should be scared. I am. A UN resolution is a Security Counsel decision that all UN member nations are supposed to follow. In 1986, for example, Nicaragua went to the Security Counsel (a part of the UN) and asked for help because the US was invading and bombing the country. The US was charged with terrorism and asked to follow international law by a resolution. The US vetoed the resolution and actually stepped up its terrorist activities.

Only around a dozen countries are part of the security counsel and it's too bad the US is one because it has been an unprecedented aggressor. The UN was created in after WW2 to establish international law and ensure peace and security in the world. The constitution says that treaties signed by the US is the "supreme law of the land." We signed the UN Charter, which established the UN and gave it recognition, in 1945 along with many other countries.

If I were you, I would read a book by Noam Chomsky and Howard Zinn. They tell the truth about overt and covert operations by the US which will make you wish you stayed ignorant.
