Why we use oil immersion for 1000x magnification and what will happen if we use the coarse adjustment with the oil immersion objective in place???

The problem with coarse adjustment when using oil immersion is that one can easily break the slide.  The coarse adjustment moves the objective over a much longer distance per turn than does the fine adjustment.  When using oil immersion, the lens is very close to the slide separated by only a thin layer of immersion oil.  It is too easy to move the objective too far towards the cover slip with the coarse adjustment and ruin the slide.
