Question:

Can you fail the drive test for not turning right on red?

I live in California and I'm taking the drive test. I heard that it's a good idea to avoid yielding errors to just not turn right unless it's green. That sounds like a great idea, but I was wondering if the instructor can mark you down points for not going on red even if it's clear and there's no "no turn on red" sign.

  1. No, you will definitely NOT fail and the instructor can NOT dock points off because even though you may be able to go and there isnt any sign saying not to it is still safe to wait until you actually have a green light. So just wait for green light and DONT risk going through red light, even though it looks ok.

  2. YES, in California you CAN ALWAYS...after a full stop and traffic allows.... TURN RIGHT on a Red light 'unless posted', "NO RIGHT TURN ON RED"!

However, if you do 'wait' for Green, some Drivers are impatiend and will signal by honking their horns if you DON'T Turn right on Red, causing MORE Attention.

Maybe after you've finished & Passed ask the Instructor....just for the h**l of it. Which is better.

  3. I am not aware of any law that says that you HAVE to turn right on red....if  unsure just wait till the light turns green

  4. It would say no but at the same time you are to obey the rules of the road, so do as you were taught.
