Our guinea pig is sick. The vet says it might be a stomach virus and gave us flagyll. He says to give her pineapple to increase her appetite.

Can we give her canned or does it have to be fresh?

  1. fresh is best, canned has preservatives and other stuff that we can take but a little creature like that cant.

  2. id err on the side of caution and say go with fresh. and feed fruits in moderation b/c they contain sugars which can be bad in excess. veggies are better

  3. I would just go safe with fresh, I could have preservatives and artificial flavoring now mentioned in the ingredients.

  4. it can be canned as long as it isn't in heavy syrup or anything.  fresh is always better though.

  5. make sure nothing is added, even sugar! and try to stay fresh. your pig will thank you.

flagyll is for guinea pigs too? I'm on that stuff! haha

  6. You can feet it canned, but fresh id better. Do NOT feed it too much, because the juice can cause stomach problems and diarrhea.

  7. I wouldn't really do that if I were you.

Processed food is usually meant for humans to eat and not animals. The only ingredient in it can't possibly be only pineapple because I'm sure they had to put something that made it non perishable since it's in a can. (or at least have an expiry date). If it has things like syrup and sugars, then don't even think about it.

You could just get a fresh pineapple! Your guinea pigs will love it!

    Have fun with your piggies!

  8. I wouldnt recomend it unless that is the only food you have that you can feed to it. I would give it fresh pineapple but canned is ok if it has no additives such as sugar and even preservatives might not be too healthy

  9. I wouldn't recommend canned stuff unless you are absolutely sure that there is no added sugar and its not in a thick syrup.  Its best just to stick with the fresh stuff when in doubt because if there is added sugar, it can make your guinea worse.  If you are just trying to increase her appetite, another good thing is red, orange or yellow bell peppers.  My guineas go crazy over those!

Good luck, I hope everything works out alright.
