Can you feed finches plums?

I have two Cordon Bleu finches and am experimenting with fruits and veggies to add to their diet. I have a list of foods you can and cannot give them, but it doesn't list plums. I know you shouldn't use plum tree branches as perches and that they can't eat the pit, but what about the plum itself?

  1. I feed my cockatiel plums! Strawberries too. just never the seeds of fruit.

  2. Plum is fine! As you already know, the pits of stone fruit (apricots, nectarines etc) are poisonous (to us too!), but the fruit is fine.

The only fruit/veggies you need to  avoid are avocado (toxic), onions (not poisonous but not good for them), and too much citrus as it can give them diarrhea if eaten in large quantities!

My finches eat corn off the cob, millet spray, strawberries (they pick the seeds out of the skin), spinach and silverbeet leaves, and that's pretty much it as they won't touch anything else I put in there.

You can also give them well washed herbs such as parsley, coriander, basil etc and they are as good for birds as they are for us.

I also give them egg and biscuit mix and livefood where available.

    Hope this helps!
