Can you file an I-751 before the 90 day period?

The instructions say "The petition must be filed within the ninety day period immediately preceding the second anniversary of the date you were granted conditional permanent resident status." I need an example of the process for my wife's sake. She wants to send in the paperwork now a year before the second aniversary of her conditional status.
