I was fired in Dec 2007 because it was a "temp job" (I worked there for 2 years) I could'nt file for unemployment right away because I was going to college and the rules are you HAVE to be activly seeking employment (which I was not I was in school) now that I am not in school and I am "activly seeking employment" Is it too late to file for unemployment? I'm guessing yes but I just want to make sure.

  1. you were temp .. you can't file

  2. No, you can file at any time. The rules probably vary from state to state, but it's basically the same.

As for actively seeking employment...be glad you aren't in my situation. I have a job, but we have no work during the summer because it's educational related. Unemployment still makes me look for a job, however, even though I know I will be starting back to work in October.

I was forced to go to a "Reemployment evaluation" appointment last week and was told I need to apply for five jobs a week.

It was all I could do not to leap across the desk and strangle the guy. Why should I be forced to look for a job when I have one? I don't think my current employer will appreciate that very much!!!

Good luck to you and thanks for letting me vent!

  3. FILE..................ASAP

the only sure thing about unemployment insurance is; nothing is certain until you file and if need be go through the appeal process.

it does not cost you a dime to file and usually can be done on-line.

this is a list of websites of every states department of labor. just go to your state's site and start the process.

  4. Most likely too late to qualify.  Rules differ somewhat by state, but in most if not all states you have to have had sufficient qualifying income in the two quarters prior to applying.

You could apply and see what they say.
