  1. Nowadays, only when you are very lucky...

  2. Amber comes from the Baltic so you can buy amber jewelry in Poland, Scandinavia, Estonia, Russia, etc. (countries on the Baltic Sea).  I am not sure whether you can find it yourself on the beach but maybe in isolated areas, although I doubt it.

  3. Yes you can.

Go along the southern Baltic Sea coastline after a storm in spring or fall and you should be able to find some.

You won't be able to find it in the summer since the water temperature has to be 4 degrees Celsius (39.2 F) in order for the amber to "float" on the salt water. At warmer water temperatures in the summer, 18 degrees Celsius (64.4 F), the amber lays heavily on the bottom of the sea and even strong winds won't be able to move it.

So if you walk along the coastline right after a spring or fall storm but with a light wind still blowing in the direction of the coastline, you should be able to find some.

Maybe you'll get as lucky as a fisherman in the year 2000. He found 2.4 kg (5.3 lbs) of amber.

    Good luck!  :-)

  4. Yes, as Nat says.  After a storm is a good time; my friends would take a stick and poke the seaweed - and what delight to find a piece of amber!  Regarding the Baltic states, it's most found in Lithuania, but you can also find some on the shores of Latvia and Estonia.  Almost as good as finding wild mushrooms in the forests after autumn rains...
