I am amateur historian. Does anyone know places in Houston where arrowheads have been found? Thank you.

  1. Technically, yes - the country is littered with them.

Practically, it's doubtful. Most areas in the city have been at one time or another covered with "fill" in order to level them to build. The arrowhead layer is beneath this "fill". If you hav a yard, you could always try mowing it short, raking it, and looking for any chips after a rain.

Your best bet though, is to concentrate on farming areas outside of town. Always ask permission before hunting, but any field that has been harvested is a good place to find arrowheads. Take a stick with you with which to flip over any exposed rocks you see - it saves a lot of bending down. Try to look about ten feet in front of you for exposed rocks, than walk up and flip them to see what you've found.

    Good luck with that!

  2. It is possible but you would be much better off in the countryside when searching for heads- here is what you need to look for- along side creeks, a slight rise in the land such as a small hillside a village would be likely to have existed on..along the edges of lakes, freshly plowed farm lands turn up a lot of heads, especially after the furrows get rained on- it exposes the heads- just make sure you have permission to look. In my part of the country, heads are everywhere, in peoples yards, gardens, water ways and farm land.

  3. In 1964 or so, when they were building the Astrodome, a bunch of Boy Scout troops were invited to have our Camporee on the grounds of what would later be the AstroHall complex. While we were digging out pit for a ground fire, one of my friends found a small arrowhead. I know that this was ages ago (no comments about if the Indians were still around), but all over that part of Texas was occupied by Native Americans and Mexicans for years before it was settled by the white man. I would suggest looking in areas near rivers, creeks, and bayous, because most settlements started near water.
