can you file for bankruptcy and still apply for an apartment and get approved. how does bk effect your credit

  1. You can get an apartment.  The problem is that you might not be able to get the apartment that you want.  There are a lot of apartment complexes, particularly those owned by large management companies, will not take the risk of renting to someone with bad credit.  Your best best is to find a smaller complex or rent out a room/guest-house/garage apartment.  Regardless, if they check your credit and see a bankruptcy, you will have to pay a significantly higher deposit than someone with good credit.

    As for how does bankruptcy effect your credit.  It pretty much destroys it for 5-7 years.  You will most likely not be able to get a loan for anything (car/house/etc.) from a legitimate source.


  2. Your choices will be severely limited, and it may take you a long time, but you will be able to find someone to rent to you somewhere. I wouldn't rent to you though.

    Bankruptcy is the absolute worst thing you can do to your credit. And it will stay with you for 10 years.


  3. Yes. but you might be asked to put down a large deposit or pay two months of rent upfront. Know a few people that went through a situation like that.
