it depends on the minimum for the state, and then how much his salary is per year.

In Texas, the first child gets 20%.  If there are two children, it is 25%, 30% for 3 and it keeps going up 5% for every child until it reaches 50%.  No more than 50% can be taken.

I just got a divorce and have one child.  I know what the law states on this.

  You won't be getting any child support.  The money is for your child and in most states it's 20% of his pay after taxes for one child.
