Can you find out if your donated blood was used?

Question

i donated blood a while ago.

is there a way to tell if they used it on someone yet, and who they used it on, or is that all private?

i'm curious to know where it went...

My husband had a GI bleed one night and went from "perfectly well" to passing out and taking a paramedic ambulance to the hospital in just 2 hours.  He need lots of fluid and 2 units that night to restore his blood pressure, and bled again 24 hours later and needed another 2 units.

I donate blood myself, and work with chemo patients who need frequent transfusions.  But I always treated the subject pretty casually. Not anymore.  I really do feel that blood donors saved his life that night.  And I have started my iron pills so I can donate more regularly!

It's all private.

The parts might have been separated and given to different people in combination with the donated blood of others.  

Good for you for donating blood.  When I was going through chemotherapy I was hospitalized twice to have blood transfusions.   I went from barely able to stand to feeling quite well after a couple units of blood.  Not as dramatic as the stuff on TV, but it sure made a difference in my life.
