Really old study, but I found it interesting.

"The society survey found that only about one in seven -- 13 percent -- of Americans between the age of 18 and 24, the prime age for military warriors, could find Iraq. The score was the same for Iran, an Iraqi neighbor.

Although the majority, 58 percent, of the young Americans surveyed knew that the Taliban and al Qaeda were based in Afghanistan, only 17 percent could find that country on a world map."

  1. i think is in the east ern part

  2. Wow, seems like lots of people are stupid lol. I'm a 12 year old from New Zealand (island near Australia) and I can locate Iraq, Iran, whatever, in a few seconds. lol. Not to mention we never learn geography at school. Good find.

  3. First, I must admit that when I saw "the Iraq" I thought "Oh brother, another one!". I have to say a big thank you for that link. I hadn't seen in in months. It's hilarious.

I imagine the stats you wrote were about right; many Americans don't know what states border their own, let alone the locations of foreign countries...or even the difference between a continent and a country.

I could label most countries on a blank map, but I'm a real geography geek and I've traveled a lot.

  4. Iraq is in western Asia in the middle east.  The country is bordered by Jordan, Syria, Turkey, Iran, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.   Iraq was formed after World War 1,after the allies carved up the Ottoman Empire, with the assistance of the occasionally famous TE Lawrence (of Arabia).

  5. yes, i can

  6. I don't think it should be a problem for me because I'm from Iraq.
