  1. It sounds a little bit choppy, and it might be a run-on. Did you write it, or is it one of those SAT prep questions? I think it should be:

"The scimitar cat, a smaller version of the saber-toothed tiger, has a hyena-like appearance and crenelated teeth.  It was once believed to have only inhabited Africa, Eurasia, and North America between five million and ten thousand years ago."

I dont get why you you say it is smaller twice in the first sentance.  But i might be wrong. Good Luck!

  2. I would put it this way.

A smaller version of the saber-toother tiger with a hyena-like appearance and smaller,  crenelated teeth, the scimitar car was believed to have inhabited Africa, Eurasia, and North America between five million and 10,000 years ago.

The comma I put after Eurasia depends on what protocol you are following consistently.  I prefer the old Oxford.

The other comment is to what does "only" refer?  Only found In Africa, Eurasia, and NA?  Or inhabited those places only between five million...etc.  Is it a necessary point?

  3. "The scimitar cat, a smaller version of the saber-toothed tiger with a hyena-like appearance and smaller, crenelated teeth, researchers believed to have inhabited Africa, Eurasia, and North America between five million and 10,000 years ago."

    Eliminate the passive voice?

  4. explain what you mean better

  5. The sentence is almost perfect.  Just reverse the words 'only inhabited" and make it "inhabited only."  you want 'only' to modify the continents, not the verb inhabited.

The commas are placed correctly.  It is not a run-on sentence, it does not sound choppy.

  6. Sounds like a bunch of science to me =]

  7. comma between "Eurasia" and "and"

  8. Nope, sounds good.

  9. comma's r placed wrong
