  1. Keith, perhaps we can entice you into doing some direct research.  Starting with you, identify (both) parents.. mom will have her maiden name to use in genealogy.  Then, your 4 grandparents (now you have 4 different persons, each will have their own background).  When possible, back up your info using documents, such as birth/death certificates.  This is preliminary searching.  If your grandparents are living, they also should be able to name their parents.

Once you have the name(s) of those born prior to 1930, and an approx location, you can post those here, and we have several persons who enjoy doing courtesy lookups in ancestry (which has census records).  The obvious thing is that someone aged 50 in 1930, would be born in 1880. The census will indicate both their place of birth, and that of the parents. You can also identify year of immigration in the census, which is taken every 10 yrs.

This is to just explain how info can be found. Ideally, in a few days, you could have explicit and original records on most of your ancestors, to know who came from where.

Warning... it is addictive, but fun, of course.

  2. There are immigrants from Ireland,Scotland and Germany in the census.

Could not find a meaning for the name.
