g(x)= 2x^2 - x - 3

What are the steps that you took to get to the answer?

  1. If the eq'n is in standard form, which is is essentially, then the vertex is given by the ordered pair as:

    (x, y) ---> {-b/(2a), f[-b/(2a)]}

    plug the a, b and c into this and you will easily get the vertex.


  2. g(x)= 2x^2 - x - 3

    vertex : (h,k)

    h = -b/2a = -(1)/2(2) = 1/4

    k = g(x) = 2(1/4)^2 - (1/4) - 3

    = 2(1/16) - 1/4 - 3

    = 1/8 - 1/4 - 3

    = 1/8 - 2/8 - 24/8

    = -25/8

    vertex : (1/4, -25/8)
