Can you fish off of a "private boat ramp"?

Ive recently got into fishing, and found this "private boat ramp" in a neighborhood that I like to fish at, but Im always worried that one of the homeowners is going to call the police on me.

Is it "illegal" to launch a boat there, but okay to fish?

I live in Texas, if that makes a difference.

  1. Permission = "Better safe, than sorry" ;)... < ' ( (( > <

  2. see this website

  3. As everyone has stated you do need the owners permission - private is private (private property), below is a link listing fishing regulations where you can look for answers to other questions.

Each state acknowledges land owners rights and some go so far as to say that you need a landowners permission in writing, Texas isn't one of them. (verbal permission is fine)

  4. You probably need the owners permission to be on their property in the first place.  Whether you're launching or fishing it's private property.  So, unless you have permission it's illegal for either.

  5. I live in Texas also, and generally what you need to do is get permission from the owner. Otherwise, they could call a Game Warden on you. Most of the time, they don't care.  It's just good common courtesy and explain that you just would like to fish there.  I've even picked up trash and junk around one that I fished at consistently just to help out.  Also, I would further research the lake and find out the specific rules.  For example, can you even fish there in the first place or is it for the residents who live around it.  Tight  lines and good luck.

  6. It should be OK if you have permission of the property owner; the fishing laws in your state might also apply.

  7. Go and ask the homeowners if its o.k to fish from the boat ramp and they may say yes or no.  They may like you if you ask o.k.
