  1. Not a good idea...You can sometimes find used frames on craigslist...

Best bet would be a new bike.

  2. HELLLLLL NOOOOO. Even on BMX bikes its bad to have a cracked frame. Get a new one.

  3. There's no way you're going weld it.    The special steel and aluminum alloys used on bikes are hard enough to weld the first time.  Attempting to fix a fatigue crack..... no way.

  4. If it's aluminum, the frame is toast. Chromo/steel frames are relatively easy to have welded, as long as you're not worried about the repair being ugly. You may want to have the area reinforced so it doesn't break again.

  5. Normally bicycle manufactures will suggest replacing the frame. Check the warranty, some bicycles are guarantee life frames. However, normally you have to be the original owner.

If this is not an option I would suggest buying a new bicycle.

  6. Oh Dude, I just nicked my new carbon road bike and even though it was a small chunk of clear coat, the bike was totaled. I found a place in CA that repairs carbon bikes, but by the time I shipped it off and waited 45+ days it was over $600.  I checked with the manufacture (Orbea) and they directed me to my local dealer who got a "Crash Replacement" price on a  $1600 new frame.  It was about 35% off the regular price of the frame. (part of their customer retention program). Still sucks, but best to have a new frame than worry with a cracked one.  So try the bike maker and/or you local shop and ask about a crash replacement frame.  One last thing to check into, is a used frame on eBay.  I checked there and found plenty of deals on frames, I just decided to go with the new one.

    Good luck!

  7. If the frame is aluminum, throw it away. Steel frames can be brazed by any competent welder but do NOT have it welded.

If the break is at the dropout- where the rear wheel fits- forget trying to repair it.

If the bike was purchased at a bike shop, bring it in and have them inspect it. There is a possibility that there was a defect in the frame.

  8. yes, but the cost and effort of this would be irrealistic.

i reccomend you just purchase a new bike.
