  1. Relax. In Dec. 2006 my ex boyfriend had his wallet stolen in NYC while home for Christmas. All he could come up with was a return envelope from when he had his social security card mailed to him (he didnt actually have the card) and an old student ID from two years ago. He showed up 6 hours early. It took him about 3 hours of hassle (and rightfully so with a supposed no id, no fly policy!) but they thankfully let him fly.

Then, recently, my mom came to visit on short notice and forgot to renew her license (her birthday and renewal date was the day before she flew). They let her fly, it just took about 15 extra minutes of security.

So, bring whatever you have, but don't freak out. Valid ID does save time and headache though. Also, get to the airport, way, way early.

  2. an expired drivers licence is NOT ID. In fact, any expired item, even a passport is not recognized as ID.

    PERIOD. END OF STORY.

You can't even open a bank account with an expired licence.

  3. Most likely.  The TSA has relaxed their "gotta have ID or no fly" policy a bit; if your ID is questionable, they have you fill out a form, run a database search, and may subject you to further screening.  They say it shouldn't take more than 15 minutes.
