Question:

Can you force someone to give back an organ?

I donated my kidney three years ago to a fairly distant cousin, who I don't even particularly like, amid intense family pressure. However I was recently in an accident and complications have led to the failure of my own remaining kidney. My cousin's kidney failure was due to drug abuse. Additionally, I have been told that she has since had some problems with alcohol. Is there a way for me do force her to return the kidney? I do not want to die, and especially not for her.

  1. sorry no. you have to go on organ donor list. i will pray for you

    good luck

  2. OMG....how horrible!!!!!!....and after the day you've had in Answers - let's see catching your dog and rabbit going at it, poor daughter allergic to Max, employees reusing rubber gloves, animals falling out of buildings with no railings, stressing over whether to date your step-daughter.....and now, just when you think it can't get any worse, KIDNEY FAILURE!

  3. After reading your question, I have to speak up about your condition.  People are wishing you luck on the organ donor list, but I'm wishing you faith.  Unfortunately, I had to wait 9 years for a heart transplant and definitely wouldn't dishonor the person who gave their life for me. The physicians who approved and performed the kidney transplant as well as the other staff (ie coordinators and nurse practitioners) need to be reviewed.  I find it impossible for them to okay your cousin for a transplant with her type of history.  Any decent physician would agree that she wouldn't be a likely candidate for a transplant period.  The only legal recourse I can give you is to sue the transplant team and state it on your cousin's risky lifestyle and behavior prior to her illness.  They should of done a better job knowing that thousands of people die each year waiting for a life saving organ and they technically wasted it on a person like her.  I would be angry too, and especially at your family for putting so much pressure on you to donate knowing how she was.  I pray for you and wish you all the luck in the world.  I hope this helps.  Stay positive and keep the faith.

  4. Never heard of someone wanting it back.  Nope.  Your cousin got the organ to live.  If removed, your cousin has no functioning kidney to keep her alive.  That was the chance you took when you donated one of your kidneys.

  5. Nope, not to be cold, but it looks as though the only revenge you can get is to write your entire family out of the will.

  6. Sorry to hear your pain but no there is no way.. Pluse would you want it back if she been drinking agian.. it would be damge and she would not be eligealble to give it to you.. your better off not even asking but looking for a new organ doner.. Ill pray for you...

  7. No there isn't.  Besides, she's been on meds so her body won't reject yours, so it may not be a good transplant for you.

This is one reason why live donors are discouraged unless they are close relations.

    Good luck

  8. This isn't a question that we, as viewers can answer. It's based entirely on morals.

If you think that you deserve to live more than she does, then bring it to court; I doubt she would give it back out of generosity. I can't exactly say it's selfish to want it back, considering it is YOUR kidney, and you gave it up entirely out of the goodness of your heart. I would probably be in the same predicament as you.

  9. No trade backs buddy. Pray for a donor.

  10. NO. But China has been doing effective stem cell work that has been repairing kidneys  in place. This may be your best hope if you can not find a good donor match, or even while waiting for a donor.

  11. to donate your organs you must sign a consent form. once you sign, your organ is legally sold.

  12. You'll never find a doctor that will remove it if she doesn't want to give it up, if you get it, you'll have to remove it yourself.

  13. No.  You're not dead... NEXT
