Question:

Can you get Final Cut to recognize my HDV cam?

I'm having trouble capturing HDV footage onto Final Cut Pro. I have no HD deck so I'm just connecting directly to my camera which is a Sony HDV 1080i miniDV.

Every time I open the capture window in FCP it tells me "unable to initialize video deck." Then the capture window opens but with the words "no communication" where the play/scan buttons should be.

When I tried to change the capture settings I saw that HDV isn't even listed as an option (only DVCPRO HD etc), but I was told FCP 6 was compatible with HDV. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong, or what I need to do to get it to see my HDV cam so i can start logging?

FCP 6 is the system I'm using, to clarify. Thanks

  1. I had to install the "Apple Intermediate Codec" manually from the system disc that came with my Mac... Both iMovieHD and FinalCut needed AIC installed to recognize when I was importing 1080i HDV from my Sony HDR-HC1 over firewire (not USB).
