Question:

Can you get HIV from fecal matter?

I always have a lemon in my drinks, so when I go out to restaurants I'll order water with a lemon in it. Anyway, my brother found this site where people in restaurants don't wash their hands before squeezing or putting the lemon in your drink. And they found fecal matter germs/organisms on them. Do, you think if anyone had gotten fecal matter or any other bodily fluid on/in my food or drink I could get catch HIV? I just ate BK last night and I don't know why I do because I'm so paranoid about eating out anymore. Plus, last night I had an open sore in my mouth and I keep wondering if they did anything to my food since they got it wrong and my mom had to fix it. They seemed nice enough. But now I feel like I'm doomed. Have you ever heard of people contracting HIV through food before? Since I have an open sore in my mouth, and (God forbid) they did anything to my food, how likely is it that I will get something like that? I now I sound paranoid, but I am. Thanks for any help =)

  1. first of all a lot of germs are unavoidable and our bodies get over it... the chances of getting HIV from food are slim to none... but if you are that paranoid you should ask them to give you the lemon whole and you cut it andsqueezee it.

  2. I haven't heard of anything like this happening, but it may be possible. But I do think you're being a little ridiculous about it. How can you live a normal life thinking things like this? lol

  3. You ARE paranoid.  Stop looking for trouble where there is none.

  4. It's not possible to get HIV that way.  HIV does not survive longer than a few minutes outside the body.  You can, however, get Hepatitis from food contaminated with fecal matter.
