  1. There are limitations, but yes, up to a certain degree.  Also, it can't be the same type of job that was the basis of the disability claim.

  2. Do you mean SSI or Disability (SSD)?  They are two different programs, but you can work in both programs.  With SSI, you can make up to $65.00 a month (before taxes) and keep all of you wages.  For every dollar you make in excess of $65.00 SSI will reduce your check by 1/2 of what you make.  For example, if you make $70.00, SSI will allow you to keep your first $65.00.  The remaining five dollars you earned will then affect your SSI.  SSI will reduce your benefits by $2.50 which is a half of $5.00.  It is very important that you report your wages on a monthly basis.  Check with your local SSA to see how they want you to report them, many offices want you to mail in your pay stubs once a month.  If your office wants you to do that, make sure you make a copy for your self first.  SSI will eventually catch up with any earnings you have, so it is best to report them as you earn them so you are not hit with a HUGE overpayment down the road.  SSD has different work rules.  With SSD you have a trial work period, then an extended period of eligibility.  Your SSD will not be reduced, but will be cut off if you make Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) after a successful Trial Work Period. In 2008 SGA is $940.00 for non-blind people and $1,570.00 for blind people. http://www.ssa.gov/OACT/COLA/sga.html

If you have SSI and SSD, you have to know BOTH sets of work rules. Also, remember any income amounts you are given is always BEFORE taxes are taken out of your paycheck. They always look at your GROSS earnings not your NET.

    Good Luck!!

  3. Yes with limitations.
