Can you get Vhs onto dvd's??

sure, they make VHS/DVD units which you can make VHS tapes into DVDs.

I personally use the computer with a high end video capture card and run an 8mm or VHS player into there and capture then run the output into Sony Vegas where I can make custom DVD menus and such.  It's an advanced and high end setup though and most people would be best wih the VHS/DVD units.
