I was thinking about getting a home or portable radio to use while I am deployed. I was just wondering if I would get a signal over there. Thanks for the help!

  1. I don't see why not.  Sirius is a satellite radio and should pick up in most areas.  You could always try I guess.

  2. i think its just north america, but I may be mistaken.

  3. No. There satellites are in permanent orbit only over North America. Sorry.

  4. No. Neither Sirius nor XM broadcast outside North Amerca.

But you can stream Sirius or XM for a reasonable fee. They may even have a deal for service members serving overseas.

    You could try http://worldspace.com/

They have a lot of the same sort of channels XM and Sirius have - but with a Euro-Afro-Asian slant.

Check their coverage map, it appears their Afristar service covers most of Iraq. You can probably sell the receiver to another GI when you leave.

What's the matter with AFRTS? As an old AFVN jock, I'm surprised you can't find anything that suits you (Ha, just couldn't hold that one in).

Thanks for your service, bud. When you get out, I'll be one of the first in line to say "Welcome Home."
