  1. The mock orange tree, Philadelphus lewisii is to find on the "Low Allergy Plant and Tree List":

    It contains saponins but these substances don`t cause chemical burns ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saponin ).

    There are two other plants called mexican mock orange ( Choisya ternata ) and Japanese mock orange ( Pittosporum tobira ). Both have a good rating on "Low-allergy plants " too, even though they content essential oils, which often cause allergies.

    So it might be the best to ask a doctor for the reason.
