Can you get a hernia from over stretching?

i wanna start taekwondo so ive been doing different stretches, some stretches are around the groin area.

i just wanna know if i stretch to often or over stretch am i at risk of a hernia??

  1. hernia's are a result of overstretching.

    Without over stretching we would not get hernias. A hernia around the groin would be when your intestines protrude out of your muscle which is then strangulated/squeezed by that muscle. Just don't over do it. weaker muscles are more prone to herniate so take your time stretching and build up gradual strength/resistance until you can reach/tolerate a resistive amount. Follow my advice unless you want to seen and feel something poking out of your skin.

    I got a nice groin pull on my right side which I now must watch.

    That is one reason active martial artists start thinking of retirement or slowing down and teaching.

  4. Yes, that's why you have to be very careful and patient when stretching. You can also pull your hamstrings or other muscles or tendons.
