  1. You will have to look for a breeder, and get ready to pay a bundle.  The last hyacinth we checked out cost $17,000.  Yes, for one bird.  They are extremely expensive, and getting more so because they are getting more and more rare.  We had a person that was looking for one and when we found it, the customer almost had a heart attack when she heard the price....so did we!!!  Please read my profile.

  2. when i was looking at moving to aussie i fround a macaw breeder in the gold coast, i remember they had B&G's and crimsons, i think they may have had Hyacinth aswell, but i can't remember.

sorry can't remember the link either, try googleing macaws gold coast.

  3. I'm not sure of the current numbers, but back in 2005ish there were only a few known Hyacinth's in Australia.

Back in the 90's when *exotic* species were able to be imported 4 types of macaws were included, but the HM was not one of them. Most of the HM in Australia are illegal birds (reported to be 22 birds but this isn't a sure thing), and in 2006 Adelaide zoo were lucky enough to get 2 that were confiscated from an illegal breeder. Unfortunately they were 2 males, and a female was trying to be located but I don't remember the outcome of that one.

In 2006 (ish) a legit HM did come up for sale with a price tag of $40,000.

HM's come up ALL the time on pet classifieds for an "adoption / rehoming" fee of only a couple of grand.

Smells like a scam from a mile away but plenty of people still get caught out by it.

Essentially hyacinth's are not an attainable bird here in Australia unless you have a LOT of money to burn, but one coming up for sale is a very rare thing indeed.

  4. Most of the birds 4 sale now are by other owners for there own reasons they have up for sale but to go out and buy this may be hard to do since this type bird is hard to find and not in alot of pet stores or breeders have and ARE VERY pricy!!
