You can get some of the moisture from the monsoon that sets up over the desert southwest.  That in turn can lead to increased rainfall amounts from showers and thunderstorms.  It typically does not last very long due to the latitude of Montana.  Recall that a monsoon is a seasonable shift in the prevailing wind flow, which can lead to a significant change in the average daily weather, such as a wet to dry season, or dry to wet.
