  1. 1. You have to know how to actually spell "sponsor" and "amateur"

    2. Once that is accomplished, of course you can, but it is very difficult.  I would expect you to be a scratch golfer, play in regional and nationally ranked tournaments, and play well 24/7.  I played with a kid in a tourney who was sponsored by Titleist.  He plays AJGA, qualified for the Junior Amateur, and tons of other stuff.  He was just coming off of a back injury (tightness that kept him away for 3 weeks) and he then shot 73 on his second round out! - Playing poorly of course.

On Titleist.com, you can go to the FAQ section and then look under "sponsorships".  I also learned from that kid that when you get sponsored there are different levels and you are given "golf bucks" - basically, they limit the amount of stuff you can get in a year.  But really, with any company, the things you will go through the most is balls and clothing.

    So, lets reitorate

    1. spell "sponsor" and "amateur" correctly

    2. be scratch or less

    3. play well in nationally and regionally ranked tourneys.

  2. You get a sponsor by winning tournaments and making a name for yourself.

  3. You can't have it both ways.  Once you get a sponsor, you aren't an amateur anymore.  But, if you are an amateur looking to turn pro (and then have sponsors), the quickest way to get that attention is to win tournaments.  Lots of them.  Consistently.  The people with money will start to take notice once you keep winning.

  4. Putting yourself out there and competeing in not only on the PGA but some of the smaller tours could get you a local sponser, not a big one but if they provide you with balls, shoes, or anythjing you can use while competing is technically a sponser, but if you are talking about clubs, balls apparel and so forth... you have to hit the big time and have a track record.
