  1. Aerial layering is a technique often used to start a new growth. Basically, a healthy new growth is nicked slightly, and the nicked area covered by a plastic sleeve containing sphagnum moss and a rooting hormone supplement. This is kept moist. The theory is, roots will form at the nicked area, and when well developed, the piece can be cut from the parent tree/ plant and re- potted on its own.
